Movie screening: 80 Degrees North – a documentary of a Svalbard expedition

Have you ever dreamed of venturing into the unknown? Wandering through a world of endless ice and white snow as far as you can see? Dare to challenge the elements and be as close to the polar nature as possible?

If so this is your opportunity to be one of the first to join Aurian Cerise, a young photographer and film-maker from Brussels on his latest great adventure. Together with Gaël Loicq, an experienced Belgian polar explorer he set off to Longyearbyen in Svalbard in March 2023 for a 22-day expedition to reach the town of Pyramiden and also come back completely independently. But even the most carefully planned expeditions can go sideways when the wild and chaotic nature of Svalbard hits you in full force...

To make his adventures available for the public Aurian documented his exciting journey full of unexpected twists and turns in the movie ("80 degrees North", 60 min), which will be shown for the first time on the 13th December in Brussels.

The scientific community was kindly invited to the screening of the movie and 40 seats were reserved on behalf of APECS. Entrance is free. So better be fast if you want to know what adventures Aurian and Gaël experienced on their expedition in Svalbard!

Besides a great opportunity for networking, APECS will also be present and available to answer questions regarding recent polar science.

And if you´re still not convinced by now. Aurian will also give a brief presentation of his next expedition (planned for 2024) with the goal of crossing Greenland from west to east and the opportunity for an interesting scientific collaboration (More info: here).

The movie screening will take place at The Faculty, Rue des Vétérinaires 47 in Brussels, Anderlecht on the 13th of December and starts at 18.30.

You can register with APECS Belgium for the event for free here.
