Rita Cruz Novo

Scientific Assistant
Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ)

Hey! I am currently a researcher at VLIZ- Flanders Marine Institute in Ostende. I have a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Oceanography and Geophysics and a master’s degree in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences both from the University of Aveiro, in Portugal, being awarded with the Best Student of the Year Award.

I started a research position at VLIZ to work with data processing and analysis of polar-related projects of Greenland. Here, I am going to study different ocean and sea ice topics, using ADCP’s and AUV’s data from cruises in North Sea and Greenland. As a Portuguese researcher, APECS seemed like a great idea to connect with people and gain insights into their research focus areas. It's not just about networking, but also about seizing the valuable opportunity for volunteering with a profound impact, particularly in educating the community about climate change in polar regions.
