I am Nerea, a Basque oceanography student in Liege university who loves everything related to the ocean and earth life, as well as the impacts of climate change in those environments.
I’m currently working on my undergraduate thesis (ULPGC- ULIège) in Antarctic (weddell) physical oceanography, which focuses in the variability of sea temperature, salinity and sea ice concentration and its relation to climate indices like SAM, ENSO… with an extra focus on the effects of climate change could have in the future. Furthermore, next year I will be also joining the research group GHER for a 5 month internship in marine heat waves in the Southern Ocean with a focus in satellite (polar) oceanography.
I wanted to join APECS because I personally think more than ever, it’s urgent to advocate for polar science, both arctic and Antarctic are suffering giant changes that will affect the whole planet, I wanted to get involved in a national and international scale and my mentors suggested APECS.
